About Us

Ask anyone who lives or works in the neighborhood of Newtonville where to find delicious Italian cooking, and they’ll point you to Fiorella’s. Since opening in 2000, we’ve earned a local reputation as the go-to choice for homemade, Italian-inspired cuisine. Prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and served with hospitality from the heart.

In the Fall of 2017, we opened our second full-service restaurant in Concord Center, and expanded our name to Fiorella’s Cucina – Italian for “kitchen,” as in our open kitchen, where our chef turns out creative twists on classic dishes. In both locations, the warmth of our wood-burning brick oven adds a rustic touch to our casually elegant dining room.

Our innovative menu features a range of traditional and contemporary entrees as well as delicious Neapolitan-style pizza and creative daily specials. Add to that a fully stocked bar, creative cocktails, and an approachable wine list, and you’ve got all ingredients for a memorable dining experience.

Fiorella’s Cucina is open for lunch Monday through Saturday, and dinner seven nights a week. We look forward to serving you!

Rémon has been cooking and entertaining guests since the age of 13, when he worked afternoons and weekends in his father’s popular brick-oven pizzeria, the original Cafe Fiorella, in Belmont. It was there that Remon discovered his love for hospitality and innate flair for business. Those formative experiences working alongside his father would become the building blocks for Fiorella’s in Newton, where he recreated and expanded on many of his father’s recipes. He also credits his Armenian heritage for the family values, sense of tradition, and passion for flavor that are the hallmarks of Fiorella’s today.

After pursuing a business degree at Bentley University, Rémon started Fiorella’s at 23 with little more than an entrepreneurial appetite and a vision for delicious rustic food and great service that would win hearts and palates. Fourteen years later, Fiorella’s has become one of Newton’s culinary gems, and with the addition of Fiorella’s Express in Brighton and Belmont (opened in 2011 in the same location as his father’s original cafe), Rémon’s vision continues to flourish and grow. Fueled by an adventurous spirit, Rémon is in constant pursuit of new ideas, exploring new flavors while respecting tradition. With his innovative vision, tireless dedication, and the help of a talented team, Fiorella’s will continue to delight customers for years to come.

Graphic designer, artist, and illustrator, Geneviève is responsible for developing and evolving Fiorella’s brand, designing a visual story and aesthetic experience that complements Fiorella’s core values, delicious food, and warm hospitality. Born to a lineage of jewelry designers and craftsmen, Geneviève was destined to be a designer; her imagination, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail are an inherent part of her lifestyle and work. Genevieve grew up in Zimbabwe, inspired by her family’s rich Armenian traditions and flavorful cooking. She moved to the US for college, earning a BFA from San Diego State University, with honors and distinction in graphic design and painting. She later met Rémon Karian and moved to Boston to start their married lives together. As partners in life and in business, Rémon and Geneviève continue to grow Fiorella’s through a collaboration of love, skills, and vision that add up to one amazing recipe for success.

Geneviève has worked as lead and senior designer for clients such as American Eagle Outfitters, Martin & Osa, 77 Kids, World Vision, Virgin, CleanWell & Westfield. Along with branding and identity work, Geneviève has been creating couture invitations since her own wedding in 2007. She has created a series of African-inspired A to Z children’s artwork which will launch in the near future.

John Gallagher

John has been working in the restaurant and hospitality business for more than 25 years. Ever since he learned to make pretzels and pizza in the 5th grade, nothing makes him happier than entertaining and cooking for family and friends. He got his start in hotel management after graduating from college, and the fast pace and constant interaction with people hooked him right out of the gate. A fast study, John worked his way up to food and beverage manager by the age of 26 and was promoted to his first general manager position by 28.

The restaurant industry called to him, and he found his way in through the bar, slinging drinks and banter before returning to management. He eventually landed at McCormick & Schmick’s where he worked in Metro DC, New Jersey, New York, and finally Boston, where he managed the local restaurant from 2004 to 2007. John joined Fiorella’s in early 2013, and in a short time has already proven an invaluable addition to the house, not only for his knowledge and experience but also for his easy way with customers and great sense of humor.

Every Italian kitchen needs an Italian Mama and that’s our manager, Mary Carresi. Her earliest childhood memories are the smell of red sauce wafting from the kitchen while her extended Italian family gathered around the table. Born to immigrant parents, Mary was raised with a rich Italian heritage and a love and knowledge for the cuisine. After raising her own three children, and years of hosting dinner parties for friends and family, Mary decided the hospitality industry was a natural fit. She started working in Italian restaurants, where her natural warmth and love for making others happy led to a role in restaurant management.

Mary joined Fiorella’s in 2005, and guests and staff alike have come to know and love her for the warmth, kindness, and hospitality that makes everyone feel at home. She adds that personal, authentic touch to the Fiorella’s experience that only a true Italian mama can provide.

Marcel pioneered the family legacy when he opened the original Café Fiorella in Belmont, MA, back in 1986. The casual restaurant served Italian-Mediterranean dishes and boasted one of the first wood burning brick ovens in Massachusetts, imported from Italy. Customers loved to linger at the cafe, drinking a cappuccino and interacting with Marcel, who was a constant presence. Marcel devoted himself to the business, working long days, and the restaurant became a second home to his wife Annie and their children Remon, Shant and Monique. From a very young age they experienced the excitement of the food business and all took responsibilities in the family establishment. Remon’s early experiences in his father’s kitchen inspired many of the classic recipes he later recreated and expanded on when he opened Fiorella’s in Newton.

Before venturing into the restaurant business, Marcel taught language at Waltham High School for more than 15 years. He had a fascination and a facility with languages from an early age; Marcel was born in Marseille, France, to Armenian parents who spoke both Armenian and French, and the neighborhood where they lived was predominantly Italian. But fluency in three languages wasn’t enough for Marcel, who later mastered Spanish at Boston University, earning a bachelor’s in languages in 1965 and a master’s in education in 1966.

As a teacher, Marcel constantly inspired his students to broaden their horizons and appreciate other cultures. He sometimes cooked for his students, introducing them to dishes from France, Spain and Italy (to the dismay of the school’s language department!). While he loved the teaching profession, Marcel’s love for cooking, conversation, and delighting people with his culinary creations, it was inevitable that Marcel should open his own restaurant.  And the rest, as they say, is history. Celebrating 30 years in the restaurant industry, Marcel is now semi-retired but as enthusiastic as ever about delighting customers and making everyone feel welcome at Fiorella’s.

With its cozy, rustic atmosphere, hospitable staff and delicious food, Fiorella’s is the perfect place to celebrate your next event. Whether you are celebrating a rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, anniversary, christening, birthday, graduation, holiday or simply an occasion to spend with close friends and family, Fiorella’s can comfortably accommodate anywhere from 10 to 100 guests any day except Friday or Saturday evenings. In addition to the main dining areas, there is a semi~private space that can hold up to 26 guests. Parties of over 45 guests can be accommodated in multiple dining areas.

Fiorella’s offers an extensive in-house catering menu or can customize one to your liking. All in~house catering entrées include our famous garlic bread sticks with Fiorella’s signature marinara sauce, toasted ravioli, and a small house salad.

Fiorella’s also has a take~out buffet style menu available for pickup or delivery, as well as a menu just for the Bambinos.

Catering Fee Details

Dine-In Catering: To ensure your event is perfect we will customize a menu to your needs. Dessert, alcohol, bambino menus, and a Prosecco toast are available upon request. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a room. This charge will be applied to your final bill. Please note that pricing does not include tax or gratuity. All major credit cards are accepted. Prices are subject to change (based on market value).

Take-Out Catering: We look forward to catering your next event and making it a huge success. A 48-hour notice is preferred for take-out catering orders. Prices do not include tax. A 50% deposit is required on all orders over $200. The remaining balance will be charged upon pick-up of order.
